Question from Jerry Borden of United Service Co.
I heard that with QuickBooks Premier I can work from my house without bringing the computer home. Can you tell me how that works?
Answer:
To be able to access your QuickBooks from home or elsewhere your have to leave your office PC running with the Internet on. Leave the PC on in your office with a persistent hi speed Internet connection. You first have to sign up for this service, which does carry a flat monthly fee, except for the first 12 months, which is free.
You don't have to worry about installing QuickBooks on your home computer because this computer will not directly be running the software. All the work will be done on your office computer. In reality, wherever you choose to be, whether on vacation, library, or anywhere else, once you log into the remote access service, you can access your office QuickBooks file from anywhere.
To login to the service go to: http://qb.webex.com and enter the password to your remote access account. Next login in the password to access the office computer and finally enter the QuickBooks company data file password. You can now begin working remotely. For security, the screen on the monitor at the office will become blank so no one can see the activity. Your work will be saved as if you are doing it at your office computer. The only issue you will have is printing. All print jobs are going to be sent to the office printers.
You may wonder how the Remote Access knows which computer in the office to log into. Each office computer must install a WebEx download that will give that computer a unique identifier.
